1. Ink Not Adhering to the Film
This is one of the most frequent issues, especially with new setups.

Possible causes:

Wrong film side: Printing on the matte (adhesive) side instead of the glossy (ink-receptive) side
Expired or damaged film: Film that has been exposed to moisture or heat
Ink compatibility: Using non-DTF ink or ink that doesn't match your printhead type
How to fix it:

Verify you're printing on the correct side — the glossy side receives ink, the matte side has the adhesive powder coating
Store film in a cool, dry place (15–30°C, humidity below 60%)
Use only dedicated DTF pigment ink compatible with your printhead (Epson i3200, XP600, etc.)
2. White Ink Separation or Clogging
White ink is thicker than CMYK inks and requires extra attention.

Possible causes:

Insufficient shaking: White ink pigment settles at the bottom of the cartridge
Infrequent printing: White ink dries inside the nozzles during idle periods
Wrong maintenance routine: Not running cleaning cycles regularly
How to fix it:

Shake white ink cartridges gently for 30 seconds before each use and daily if the printer is idle
Print at least once every 1–2 days to keep ink flowing
Run a nozzle check daily; perform a cleaning cycle if any nozzles are missing
Use a high-quality DTF ink cleaning solution weekly
3. Powder Not Melting Evenly
When hot melt powder doesn't fuse properly, transfers crack or peel after washing.

Possible causes:

Incorrect oven temperature: Too low to fully melt the powder
Uneven powder application: Clumps or bare spots on the film
Wrong powder type: Using powder not designed for DTF (e.g., sublimation powder)
How to fix it:

Set your curing oven to 160–170°C (320–338°F) for 2–3 minutes
Shake off excess powder gently and evenly before curing
Use only DTF-specific hot melt powder (fine grade for detailed designs, medium for general use)
4. Transfers Peeling After Washing
If your prints look great but don't survive the first wash, there's a problem with your heat press process.

Possible causes:

Low press temperature or pressure: Insufficient heat or pressure to bond the transfer
Short press time: Not enough time for the adhesive to activate
Washing too soon: Washing before the ink has fully cured (24 hours)
How to fix it:

Increase heat press temperature to 160–165°C (320–329°F)
Apply firm, even pressure — 6–8 kg (medium-high on most presses)
Press for 15–20 seconds with a second press after removing the film (5 seconds with parchment paper)
Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash; wash inside out at 30–40°C
5. Banding or Lines in the Print
Visible horizontal lines or banding across your print output.

Possible causes:

Clogged nozzles: One or more nozzles not firing
Print head misalignment: The printhead needs calibration
Incorrect feed settings: Media feed rate doesn't match the film type
How to fix it:

Run a nozzle check pattern — if nozzles are missing, perform 1–2 cleaning cycles
Check printhead alignment through your printer software (RIP or native driver)
Verify the media thickness setting matches your DTF film (usually 100–120 microns)
Clean the encoder strip if banding persists
6. Color Inaccuracy or Fading
Printed colors look dull, washed out, or significantly different from your design.

Incorrect color profile: RIP software not configured with the right ICC profile
Low ink levels: One or more colors running low affects color balance
Film quality: Low-grade film doesn't hold ink well
How to fix it:

Install and select the correct ICC color profile for your ink + film combination in your RIP software
Check ink levels before starting a production run
Use high-quality DTF PET film with a proper ink-receptive coating
Perform a test print and adjust density settings if needed
7. Film Jamming in the Printer
The film gets stuck or feeds unevenly through the printer.

Possible causes:

Incorrect loading: Film not aligned properly on the feed roller
Roll tension too tight or loose: Uneven unwinding causes skewing
Dust or debris on rollers: Reduces grip and causes slippage
How to fix it:

Load the film roll straight, ensuring the edges align with the printer guides
Adjust the roll holder tension so the film feeds smoothly without dragging
Clean the feed rollers with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth
Cut the leading edge of the film at a clean, straight angle before loading
8. Ghosting or Double Images
A faint duplicate image appears slightly offset from the main print.

Possible causes:

Film movement during printing: The film shifts between passes
Worn feed rollers: Not gripping the film securely
Software feed settings: Bi-directional printing causing misalignment
How to fix it:

Switch to uni-directional printing in your RIP software (slower but more precise)
Check that the film roll is secured and not pulling to one side
Replace worn feed rollers if the film slips during printing
9. Yellowing or Discoloration on White Areas
White ink areas turn yellowish over time, especially on light-colored garments.

Possible causes:

Ink contamination: White ink mixed with CMYK residue in the system
UV exposure: Ink degrades under prolonged sunlight
Low-quality ink: Pigments not stable enough for long-term use
How to fix it:

Flush the ink system with cleaning solution before installing fresh white ink
Advise customers to avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure on printed garments
Use high-quality, name-brand DTF pigment ink from a reliable supplier
10. Design Details Bleeding Together
Fine lines, small text, or intricate details lose sharpness and blend into each other.

Possible causes:

Too much powder: Excessive powder fills in fine details
High humidity: Moisture causes powder to clump
Low-resolution design: Source file doesn't have enough detail
How to fix it:

Use a powder shaker to distribute powder evenly, then shake off excess thoroughly
Control workspace humidity below 60%
Ensure your design is at least 300 DPI at print size
For very fine details, consider using fine-grade hot melt powder
