UV DTF AB Film Application Guide: Step-by-Step from Print to Hard-Surface Transfer

What You Need

  • UV DTF printer with UV-curable ink
  • UV DTF A film (print side) and B film (transfer / laminate)
  • Application squeegee or laminator
  • Target substrate: phone cases, mugs, leather, acrylic, metal, glass

Step 1 — Print on the A Film

Load the A film with the coated side facing the printhead. Print your design in mirror mode with UV ink. Unlike traditional DTF, there is no powder and no powder shaker — the adhesive lives on the B film.

Step 2 — Laminate with the B Film

Align the B film over the printed A film and run them through a cold laminator or press gently by hand. The UV-cured ink bonds to the adhesive layer. Trim around the design.

Step 3 — Weed the Excess

Peel the combined A+B sheet away from its backing and remove the unprinted areas. You are left with a sticky, self-adhesive graphic.

Step 4 — Apply to the Substrate

Position the graphic on the clean, dry surface. For flat hard items (acrylic, metal, glass), a firm hand press or light roller is enough — no heat press required. For curved surfaces (mugs, bottles), a gentle tack with a heat gun or convection oven (low temp, short time) improves conformability.

Step 5 — Peel the A Film

Slowly peel the A film away, leaving the UV-printed layer bonded to the substrate. The result is scratch-resistant and waterproof.

Pro Tips

  • Keep films in a dry environment; humidity weakens the adhesive.
  • Test on a scrap substrate before a production run.
  • Store laminated graphics flat — do not roll tightly.
